United Hospital District is staffed by Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES), who is specially certified with significant knowledge and experience in treating people with diabetes. Carolyn Kryzer, RDN, LD, CDCES is also a registered dietician nutritionist and licensed dietician. She is available to educate and support people affected by diabetes, including UHD in-patients and out-patients. She also offers consultant services to UHD Home Health and Hospice patients.
Diabetes Education at UHD
At UHD, our goal is to partner with patients to educate, support and help them achieve their goals in managing diabetes. This can include: • Nutrition assessments and education
- Continuous glucose monitoring (MNT treatment)
- Developing treatment goals
- Understanding and managing diabetes
Referral is needed for most Diabetes Education services
Please check with your insurance carrier and speak to your healthcare provider, if needed.
Are Diabetes Education services covered by insurance?
It depends on your insurance plan. In many cases, insurance will cover a Diabetes Self-Management Training (DSMT), which is a referral from a primary care provider (PCP). Other services that may be covered include continuous glucose monitor services, or MNT.
