We offer state-of-the-art neonatal virtual care at United Hospital District through a partnership with the newborn care specialists at Children’s Minnesota, whose Level IV neonatal expertise holds the highest designation by the American Academy of Pediatrics. This technology allows 24/7 access to video consulting with Children’s Minnesota neonatal care specialists as they partner with our community hospital staff to make emergent care decisions, consult on the assessment and management of newborns and helps determine whether the newborn might be able to remain with their family for care at their community hospital or if they need to be transferred for more intensive care.

If the need arises, this technology allows 24/7 access to secured video consulting with Children’s Minnesota neonatal care specialists as they partner with UHD staff to provide the best care for your child.
What Happens During a Virtual Care Consultation?
Using a specialized telemedicine cart, Children’s Minnesota’s newborn care specialists will be present virtually at the bedside working with your baby’s care team. Please know that all final care decisions will be made by your UHD physician. Your care team will let you know if there is a need for a virtual care consultation. Depending on the situation, you may or may not be present during the virtual consultation. Please let your baby’s care team know if you have concerns about this service.
What does this mean for you?
This virtual care service gives you and your baby 24/7 virtual access to specially trained newborn care experts. Clinicians at UHD hospital and from Children’s Minnesota will work together to make emergent care decisions, consult on the assessment and management of your child, and help determine whether it’s best for your baby to remain at UHD hospital or if they need to be transferred for more intensive care. Your physician will discuss any recommendations for transfer with you in advance.
What is the Cost of this Service?
There is no additional cost to you for a neonatal virtual care consultation.
What about Privacy?
Virtual care consultations are secure and not recorded. All parties involved in the virtual consultation are required to comply with all applicable patient privacy and security laws regarding Protected Health Information (PHI) and HIPAA regulations.
