Price Transparency - Price Estimates

Price Transparency

United Hospital District’s Standard Charges

To enhance price transparency, all U.S. hospitals and health systems must provide lists of standard hospital charges, enabling patients to compare prices between facilities. Here are some important points to consider when reviewing the list of standard charges:

  • The charges listed are rarely the actual amounts patients pay. The chargemaster reflects the set dollar amount for each service before applying discounts for insurance contracts, benefit plans, or self-pay. As a result, patients typically pay less than the standard charges.

  • Charges for the same service can vary between patients due to differences in treatment.

  • Patients eligible for financial assistance may qualify for additional discounts.

  • What’s included in a charge can vary by hospital system. For example, one hospital’s charge for room and board may include bundled services, while another hospital may list those services separately.

  • Comparing hospital charges does not indicate the quality of care or patient outcomes.

Clinic and Hospital Fee Disclosure

Your UHD billing statement may include additional charges depending on your health insurance. These could include:

  1. A provider fee for the services of your medical provider.

  2. A facility fee from the hospital.

To better understand your costs, contact your insurance provider, as you may be responsible for out-of-pocket expenses.

If you have questions about your bill, please reach out to the UHD billing office at 507-526-7388 Option 3.

Minnesota Price Transparency

Minnesota law requires primary care and pediatric clinics to annually post the top 25 most commonly billed services priced over $25, including the top 10 Evaluation & Management and Preventive Medicine services.

We support the intent of this law to educate you on the cost of health care and your financial responsibilities. Amounts posted at the link below do not reflect amount(s) each clinic patient will pay for the services listed.

For specific information about your financial responsibility for the services you receive, contact the UHD Business Office at 507-526-7388 Option 3. Our hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Price Estimates

How much will my procedure cost?

United Hospital District is committed to providing patients with access to current pricing information for tests, procedures, surgeries, and other hospital services. Price estimates are intended to help patients better understand anticipated charges before receiving care. Our Patient Financial Services staff is available to assist patients throughout the estimate and billing process.

Please be advised of the following regarding price estimates:

  • Price estimates are based on the typical charges associated with specific procedures or services. Actual charges may vary depending on the care provided, the patient’s individual clinical needs, and any additional services determined to be medically necessary at the time of treatment. Estimates may include anticipated fees but may not represent all charges associated with the visit or procedure.
  • A price estimate may not include all charges associated with the service provided. Patients may receive separate bills from physicians, providers, or other entities that bill independently from United Hospital District.

To request a price estimate, patients may use our online Price Estimate tool, MyChart - Patient Estimates or login into MyChart account and select "Billing" then "Estimates" to get started. Patients may also contact Patient Financial Services at (507) 526-7388, Option 3 for Patient Financial Services. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
