INR/Coumadin Clinic

The management of anticoagulation therapy and medicines traditionally has not been easy or convenient, but managing proper clotting is critical to your health. Clots that form in the heart, veins or arteries can block blood flow and cause a heart attack, stroke, or damage a limb or other parts of the body.

Patients who are taking Warfarin (Coumadin®) to prevent blood clots can now have their blood tested and monitored with a simple fingerstick in UHD’s INR/Coumadin Clinic. The CoaguChek XS® System allows the patient’s INR to be determined in less than five minutes. A UHD nurse then adjusts the dosage as needed and determines the optimal frequency of the INR. The purpose of the INR/Coumadin Clinic is to optimize therapeutic anticoagulation by minimizing bleeding risks, minimizing time to therapeutic levels, minimizing time spent to do the test and learn results and to increase patient education, monitoring and compliance.

This convenient offering is managed by the clinic staff and is available during the following hours:
  • Monday, Tuesday, Friday: 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday: 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
With UHD’s INR/Coumadin Clinic you can rest assured that our healthcare professionals are here to help you with timely, professional advice about monitoring and dealing with your blood conditions. You can stop in anytime during the designated COAG Clinic times listed above or call 507-526-7388 for an appointment.
